    Didactics

Have you ever wondered why you conducted specific experiments regarding certain physical questions at school?

We investigate what makes physics lessons mor interesting!

Our work field comprises the planning and conducting of learning processes in physics as well as the scientific evaluation of their effectiveness. We investigate subject-specific approaches that are dedicated to particular topics in physics as well as interdisciplinary contributions to educational research in general that have a connection to physics. We focus on experimentation in physics lessons, especially  on student experiments. Therefore we investigate the open experimentation, the scientific insights into properties of the scientific subject matter with regard to possible scientific experiments, the role of measurement uncertainties in experiments, the optimal learning support during experimentation and the development of new experiments.

The students' lab (Schülerlabor) as key element

The students' laboratory at our faculty plays a key role for our research. Here we conduct projects, take up current topics and competencies of other research disciplines, use modern and high-quality equipment and persue specific didactical goals. This gives us the opportunity to cooperate with schools and develop, try and evaluate new teaching concepts for physics as a school subject.

Conclusion: Our research regarding the didactics of physics is more than the training of future physics teachers.
